Gay History, purges at the State Department

It's always good to remember otherwise forgotten history.

One thing which is frequently forgotten is that during the McCarthy period it wasn't just Communists who were fired from government jobs but people who were either gay, had had gay relationships in the past, or were suspected of being gay.

Being gay made you politically unreliable in the eyes of the State Department, so otherwise loyal citizens and good workers were fired for nothing.
