A recent Christian Science Monitor article about the rise of fascist and racist groups in Spain points out that one of the sub-cultures considered to be pro-violent, racist, are 'ultras', or soccer hooligans. Who are the equivalent of the rabid fans of the NFL here in the U.S.
Some how, this does not surprise me. People glorifying a cult of violence which includes demonizing supporters of the other team and being willing to use violence against them? Couldn't be racist! Couldn't be a breeding ground for racist violence! Whoever came up with such an idea?
It's just the American past time, right? Not a bunch of bigots in team colors yelling about faggots and wanting to beat the shit out of someone.
