The things the young whippers snappers are listening to today...

Back in my day they didn't have roads...

What's great about what's been happening in music in the last, well, five or so years, is that there's been a tremendous amount of crossover in music between various styles, with electronic elements being integrated into post-rock and no-wave and post-punk styles being integrated into a lot of things, progressive psychedelic sounds coming in, metal influencing non-metal bands, industrial music somewhat having an influence, although this is more wishful thinking on my part than anything else. It's all really good. Back in my day the genres were pretty much straight forwawrd: you had rap, alternative music, techno, punk rock, indie rock, and that was about it. People who crossed genres would probably be classified as being too intellectual or gimmicky, trying to do something that would probably be thought of as not really working and just being sort of shitty. But that's been proven wrong, wrong, wrong. Musical richness is coming back.
